The Neyhart Scholarship, created by Clara and Greg Neyhart, will award its first scholarship in July of 2012. Applications will be accepted between January 1 and April 15.

Clara and Greg established this scholarship in 2010 to support patients with kidney disease or children of patients with kidney disease, who are in pursuit of education in a university, community college or vocational training setting.

“Greg and I are excited that it’s finally come to fruition because we really feel that education is the path to success for our patients, or really for anyone with kidney disease,” said Clara.

Clara Neyhart is a nurse who has worked with the UNC Division of Nephrology & Hypertension, devoting her entire career to caring for patients with kidney disease. She has seen firsthand the struggles that kidney patients encounter.

Greg Neyhart is a college professor of chemistry. As a university instructor, he has been fortunate to support students in their quest for knowledge and to further their education. He also understands the obstacles students can face.

In this spirit, Clara and Greg Neyhart established this scholarship to encourage and support education for people with kidney disease. It is Clara and Greg’s hope that this scholarship will provide the first step for many people toward defining their future, in spite of, rather than because of their kidney disease.
