Jenny Flythe, MD, MPH

Jenny Flythe, MD, MPH, associate professor of medicine in the division of nephrology and hypertension, has received an award for $116,625 from the NIH National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), to conduct a pilot feasibility study of loop diuretics among individuals receiving hemodialysis.

Flythe, who is medical director of UNC Hospital’s Dialysis Services, is working to identify modifiable mortality determinants among maintenance dialysis patients and developing innovative treatment strategies to reduce these risks. She is particularly interested in hemodialysis procedural and care process factors. Her dialysis research touches numerous topic areas including fluid management, vascular access, patient-reported outcomes, patient preferences, medication safety and effectiveness, and stakeholder engagement.
