MiSLE: A Phase II Controlled Trial of Human Allogeneic Umbilical Cord-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) for the Treatment of Refractory Lupus

Purpose: To learn if lupus patients receiving a human umbilical cord-derived stem cell infusion will respond better than patient receiving the placebo infusion when added to stand-or-care therapy for active lupus.
Study Procedures: A single intravenous infusion of stem cells or placebo will be given at the baseline study visit followed by study visits at weeks 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 36 and 52 for collection of blood and urine along with physical exams and disease activity assessments.
Participation: Participation in the study will last approximately 1 year.
