Autoimmune Disease and Vasculitis
The UNC Autoimmune and Vasculitis Program brings together nationally recognized rheumatologists, nephrologists, pulmonologists, and immunologists to provide multidisciplinary, patient-centered care. Our mission is to deliver expert clinical care, conduct leading-edge research, and educate the next generation of specialists.
About Us
The Autoimmune and Vasculitis Program at the UNC Kidney Center was established in XXXX to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term outcomes of patients with immune-mediated kidney diseases. UNC physicians and scientists have helped define standards of care for conditions such as ANCA-associated vasculitis, lupus nephritis, and anti-GBM disease, contributing to national and international studies that continue to shape how these diseases are treated today. Their work has led to better care for thousands of patients across North Carolina and around the world.

The program brings together internationally recognized experts who dedicate their careers to advancing the field through clinical excellence, discovery, and mentorship. Some focus on translational science, uncovering the mechanisms that drive autoimmune kidney disease; others lead clinical programs that deliver cutting-edge therapies and patient care. Many straddle both worlds, transforming scientific insights into real-world treatments and training the next generation of physician–scientists to do the same.
Research & Impact

Transforming immune discovery into better kidney care
UNC investigators explore the immune mechanisms that cause vascular and glomerular inflammation, identify novel biomarkers for disease activity, and develop innovative treatment approaches that minimize toxicity and improve long-term outcomes. The program participates in the following studies, CureGN, CureGN Diabetes, and NEPTUNE.
