Sponsors: This research study is supported by money from GlaxoSmithKline, Regeneron, and Boehringer-Ingelheim.
Age Range: 18+
Status: Enrolling

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to gather a group of patients with diabetes who undergo a kidney biopsy to create a source of information with genetic, blood, and urine samples available, by which researchers can study how diabetes affects kidney function.

Study Procedures: During the kidney biopsy we collect an additional core for research. If the biopsy shows that diabetes is affecting kidney function we schedule an enrollment visit – asking about medical history, collecting blood samples, and collecting spot urine and 24-hour urine samples. After that we conduct brief follow-up visits every 6 months – asking about medical updates, collecting blood and urine samples at each visit.

Participation: The study lasts for 4 years, with visits every 6 months.
