On June 17, 2015, four nephrology trainees were recognized in a graduation ceremony for successfully completing their subspecialty training at UNC. Baher Basta, MD, Elizabeth Brant, M5, Koyal Jain, MD, and Kawan Swain, MD have graduated and each will be starting new jobs as nephrologists.

Dr. Basta will be going into private practice nephrology in Hampton Roads, Virginia. He said that his focus will be to improve the health of patients with kidney disease, reducing mortality and improving their quality of life.

Dr. Brant is heading to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center Division of Nephrology as an Assistant Professor of Medicine. Dr. Brant will be practicing general nephrology and said she hopes to develop a strong clinical and research GN program.

Dr. Jain will be joining UNC faculty as an Assistant Professor of Medicine. She said that her focus will be in general nephrology along with obtaining training in epidemiology

Dr. Swain is becoming an associate member physician at Eastern Nephrology Associates in Greenville and will practice general and interventional nephrology. He said that he plans to become more involved with the business side of medicine.

The UNC Kidney Center welcomes Dr. Koyal Jain and former fellow Dr. Emily Chang who are becoming UNC faculty as of July 1, and wishes all fellows the best in their nephrology careers.
