The UNC Academy of Educators (AOE) held its annual Alan W. Cross Evening of Scholarship on May 23, an event that celebrated the accomplishments of the previous year, welcomed new members and awarded outstanding educators in the community.
Koyal Jain, MD, FASN, and Keisha Gibson, MD, MPH, both received a Foundation Phase Teaching Excellence award for significantly influencing courses in the Foundation Phase. Selection was based on their teaching contributions and student evaluations. Jain was also one of four new faculty accepted to AOE membership.
Gibson is associate professor of medicine and pediatrics, chief of the division of pediatric nephrology and director of the pediatric nephrology fellowship program. Jain is assistant professor of medicine and associate program director for the nephrology training program.
The Academy of Educators has established a number of teaching awards to recognize the importance of excellence in medical student teaching, increase the prestige of great teachers and make teaching a more viable part of a faculty member’s career path. Learn more about AOE here.
